The Brown Derbies is an all-male a cappella group from Brown University. The group was founded in 1982 and has since become one of the most well-known collegiate a cappella groups in the country. We sing a large range of styles, from Barbershop to Rock to R&B. We've released 10 studio albums which have all received critical acclaim (they may be lame a cappella organizations, but they're still critics) and we've performed all across the United States and in few other countries as well.
Whether it is a high school music group, a stadium of baseball fans, or our friends at Brown, our audience is incredibly important to our shows. We are sustained by their enthusiasm, we draw from their participation, and we grow from their feedback. We love talking to our audience afterwards and seeing that our energy on stage has spread throughout the crowd, leaving every man, woman, and child engaged and excited.
However, the truth is that dancing, jumping, air guitar-ing and general tomfoolery is what we're all about. We love getting together to sing, and we love getting together not to sing. We are a bunch of guys who love to hang out together, and if you took away the music, we would still be great friends (though fortunately the music isn’t going away anytime soon!).
This all sounds pretty cheesy, but we believe a cappella is supposed to be cheesy, as well as goofy, absurd, and most importantly, fun. Whether or not you think you love a cappella, there is nothing more entertaining than singing tight harmonies, intricate arrangements, and funky guitar solos, rocking out on stage like you would in the shower… just with less soap and more clothes.
